Shu Pu Erh Lao Te Ji, AA, 2000
Loose-leaf Shu Pu Erh tea, produced in 2000 from selected leaves harvested from large trees. It was stored in a moderately humid warehouse in Menghai. The flavor is smooth and warming—woody and spicy, with notes of nuts and dried fruit and a caramel-like sweetness—devoid of any harsh bitterness. A mellow, warming tea meant for leisurely sipping. Ideal for brewing in a thermos.

In its dry state, the tea consists of fleshy, medium-sized brown leaves and a significant number of stems. The aroma reveals notes characteristic of aging: camphor, spices, wood resin, and an autumnal forest.
The infusion is a clear, reddish-cognac color with a distinctive aged profile. The taste is smooth and warming—woody and spicy—featuring notes of nuts and dried fruit alongside a caramel sweetness, with no pronounced bitterness. It leaves a long, velvety finish.
A smooth, warming tea perfect for leisurely sessions. It is also well-suited for brewing in a thermos.
How to brew
Brewing in a gaiwan or clay teapot
- Water: 90-95°C
- Amount of tea: 7-10 g per 120-150 ml
Place the tea in a well-warmed gaiwan or teapot and let it warm up for 10 seconds.
First infusion: 10 seconds
Subsequent infusions: gradually increase the steeping time by 10+ seconds
Steeping in a thermos
- Water: 85-90°C
- Amount of tea: 5 g per 400-500 ml of water
Use slightly less than you'd like to avoid over-steeping the tea, especially if you plan to keep it in the thermos for several hours.
Brewing over a stove
- Amount of tea: 10-15 g per 800-1000 ml of water
Bring the water to a near boil and turn off the heat. Let it steep for a while to obtain a soft, pleasant infusion.
