Taiwan Tea No. 18, known as Hong Yu, sometimes referred to as Han Shan black tea, contains the genes of wild mountain tea. It is a variety with large leaves, a tree-like trunk, a tall crown and relatively few branches, which is the main difference from the bush tea variety. The tree has thick and long roots, is strong and resistant to disease, and there are relatively few young buds and down. The leaves are thick, very glossy and have wavy edges.

It has large, slightly twisted, oblong, black leaves. When warmed by breathing, it smells an unusual sweet aroma of fruit, cinnamon and honey. When water of about 90°C is added, a bright and thick ruby-copper colored brew is obtained, which justifies its name. After the first brewing, the aroma becomes even more intense and resembles a warming herbal ointment with a hint of peppermint. The taste is smooth and multifaceted.
